Boris - Pomodoro coi pachino o i San Marzano?

Boris. Ah Boris.

Come Boris.

Boris, ritorna. La Tv ha bisogno di voi.

Boris - Tomato with Pachino or San Marzano?

Boris. Ah Boris. 10 years have passed since the birth of this television product so outside the box and so revolutionary, in some ways. The most avid fans cry out for the production of another season, the fourth, but for now the rumors don't allow us to know anything.

Italy of 10 years ago, speaking about television, was an Italy that knew the boom of Sky, that was in its element in drama such as Vivere (Live), Incantesimo (Enchantment), Centovetrine (A hundred shop windows) and many others rather forgettable, but who managed to have a narrow squeak thanks to Romanzo Criminale (Criminal romance), the only true jewel in that opaque period of Italian TV. Those years were perfect to accommodate something against the current, oxymoric and brilliant. That "something" was just Boris.

Probably nobody would have imagined all the success that would have resulted from this product, especially in the years to come, so much to take root in the memory of the Italians. A success so great to result in the birth of the adjective "borisiano", just to indicate that kind of acting rough, approximate and at the limits of the ridiculous.

And from here the question: What is the feature that raises Boris above all other products, similar and not? It could be the fine citationism, filled with the presence of guest stars of absolute level like Giorgio Tirabassi, in the role of Glauco, an extremely offensive character, yet impossible to hate to 100%, or Corrado Guzzanti, incredibly outside the box? It could be the pungent and sharp irony, that affects any character and any situation?

Despite the above characteristics are excellent points in favor, extraordinarily inserted in the cinematographic context of the series, these are not the real key to success. The absolute change, the tomato sauce that makes good spaghetti, is the idea that is rooted in Boris. How many times have we seen a product that is about a television crew that is shooting a drama really bad, with indecent actors and a million other problems, delays and complications of any kind? None, in fact. Perhaps only the USA series 30Rock approaches, even remotely, the format. Consequently, this formula can only be based on the roles of the actors, protagonists and not.

Every fan finds himself loving an always different character, from the chief machinist Biascica/Paolo Calabresi, to the "damned bitch", toponym of the actress Corinna/Carolina Crescentini, to the "little Italian" actor Stanis La Rochelle/Pietro Sermonti, to the first assistant director Arianna/Caterina Guzzanti, perhaps one of the very few really positive characters in the series, along with the poor intern Alessandro.

Oh yes, because in Boris the characters are all negative, all. Nobody can save himself in the general chaos, even if someone tries, like the director Ferretti/Francesco Pannofino (that is not a David Lynch, eh, by the way here is the article of the USA director, recently 72 years old here); but even he is forced to succumb to the hypocrisy, to the convenience, to the "bring home the day". All inserted in a frame that borders on the ridiculous, that is a visibly fake and absurd set, where all these fishes swim.

Yet we love these characters that keep close to the caricature. And why do we love them?

Because they feel sorry for us. Because they seem real. Because it makes us think that, behind these dramas so bad, the people who work to them are really like that. Men and women forced to innumerable compromises, that grant favors to other individuals because these ones are provided with political protection, perfectly aware of being supporters of the cultural dulling of Italy.

But they can not do anything to change the situation, because the money god, the system and the laziness win, always.

But does a hope exist? It's always said that the future is in the youngs, more intelligent and smart than the old men who command. But the future that Boris illustrates includes surely young people, but like pieces of a huge puzzle, inserted perfectly into that rotten television system, that feeds itself and stays in the mediocrity.

A pioneer of physics, inventor of the gravitational theory, Isaac Newton, defined God as a clockmaker. A being who had created the mechanism, had rotated the gear and had started the world, letting it go, so that the human being arranged himself all-around.

For Boris the world of the television is so: a clock that continues undaunted in its rottenness. It would remain only to find out who has invented this way of making Italian television, but Boris doesn't tell us, because it doesn't know. Nobody knows it.

The same production manager Lopez of "The eyes of the heart 2", the drama around which all the events and all the characters evolve, says that a modern series, done properly, and not "to fucking dog" is not desirable. It would revolutionize and undermine the entire television world of Italian dramas, which have great success with the public, and which therefore work perfectly. Why then ruin a system that already works? No further comments are needed.

Despite this message so pessimistic that the screenwriters have wanted to bring out (ah, the real screenwriters, not the ones of Boris, incapable but seen as absolute geniuses), Boris never loses, never, its satirical and comic vein, making us smile loudly of all the situations that happen and embedding unforgettable memories in our memory, like some football teasings (see almost all the catalogue of Renè Ferretti/Pannofino).

Everything is surreal, but everything is perfectly plausible.

It's no coincidence that the opening theme song was performed by Elio e le Storie Tese, princes of satirical music, full of oxymorons, neologisms and irony. As Boris.

Boris comes back. TV needs you.
