Boris - Stagione 1

Boris - Season 1

Written by Andrea D. |

If Rocco Siffredi -and I quote verbatim from his biography that I always keep under my pillow- has taught the world that "Italians do it better", there are other things that seem to exist to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the Italians make it worse.

On top of the list there is the TV, and on the top of the list in the list that creepy phenomenon that is called drama, perfectly summed up in the distillate of idiocy, carelessness and lack of professionalism that is "Gli occhi del cuore 2" (The eyes of the heart 2), the imaginary series but-not even-too around which are told the stories of Boris.

Produced by Fox Channels Italia and realized by Wilder from an idea of Luca Manzi, television author with who knows how many pains to be expiated, Boris is desire for revenge, desperate cry of those who got tired of doing shitty television, of those who question the unwritten rule that in order that people look at it's necessary to make it bad; an ambitious project that has been so successful not at all obvious, showing that not to be idiots are not only authors and actors, but also the audience.

Boris is a goldfish, mascot of the series and inspirational power of the master René Ferretti, director of recognized talent who resigned himself to the philosophy of the compromise earns loaf making drama for the television. Through his dismayed look and the one terrified of Alessandro, slave unpaid intern (that will make the leap in quality when it will pass to be paid very little), we dive into a dark world of protections and recommendations, populated by bitch actresses and megalomaniac actors, slakers screenwriters, thieves and panders delegates, underpaid technical (the famous overtimes of April for which no one will never see a cent of Euros), but also assistants, operators and the director himself skilled and highly trained which for the provisions of the network make it "to fucking dog", because if it's better than the advertising then people change channel. And the satire is not limited to this, because in the embarrasing but credible episodes of Gli occhi del cuore (The eyes of the heart) is reflected throughout a little Italy ignorant and hick, who laughs for a comedian because he says swear words (Nando Martellone, that fills theaters with the catchphrase "bucio de culo" (asshole)), breaks the balls if a series doesn't take sides against the abortion and determine the success of the worse craps (next to Gli occhi (The eyes of the heart) make a fine show of themselves other well-known products of the network, as "Caprera" and "Libeccio").

Sense of the humor that is pure vitriol, the cut of a sit-com and a direction that between flashbacks and jump-cut doesn't spare ideas usually unfeasible for Italian format are the strengths of the series, even if to hit us like a truck full in the face are the extraordinary actorial tests: very good Tiberi (Alessandro), Pannofino (René) and the Guzzanti (Arianna, first assistant director), but the real revelation is Pietro Sermonti, exceptional in the role of Stanis Larochelle, "anglosaxon" star obsessed by the fear of making things "too Italian".

Unfortunately the series, which has virtually no weaknesses, is penalized by a scheduling not exactly very happy* and a promotion with the aim of it's done but it's not said (the same advertising spots, with which Fox is literally bombarding us, don't give just one clue about the plot, making vaguely undestand to us that is a funny thing) and in this aspect it reminds a little Scrubs in its debuts (moreover, the title of the first episode it's a clear reference): magazines and websites described it as a crazy tv series and decreed that being improbable the characters were also improbable also the stories told, when the series, among other things, wanted to highlight just the absurdities of the American health care system. In the same way you will hear about, speaking of Boris, a ramshackle troupe, struggling with a preposterous drama. It's not true. What you'll see in Boris is all true, from the astonished faces to the light all opened, from the surreal dialogues to the dead centers of the plot (but wow is it possible that Gli occhi del cuore (The eyes of the heart) has dead spots? Rapes, incests, evil twins, gunfights, attacks..!!) brilliantly solved by the scriptwriters with "let them fuck, so suddenly, without meaning". And it's just this frightening verisimilitude that gives to the show freshness as well as charm: characters-limit and comic sketch do their duty, but Boris touches the peaks of the sublime when it merely describes the disheartening reality of a television that makes ugly who watch it -and this already we suspected it- but especially who makes it.

✪✪✪✪✪

* The second season (that is called "Boris 2", because of a legacy even this very Italian according to which if you don't place the number in front people believe it's the same thing that has seen the year before) is scheduling on Fox Italia, channel 110 on Sky, every Monday at . The first season, that it's rumored that could be bought by Rai Tre to be broadcasted also in clear, was recently released on dvd and it can be purchased at reasonable prices both in stores and online: buy it is a moral duty.
