Boris: l'anti-fiction

Affrettatevi!

Boris: the anti-drama

by: Redazione GirlPower

The Fox series that mocks the Italian drama is a cult and a big success among the critics and on the web. The good authors for television there are, but will they remain confined to the satellite?

Edited by Alice T.

At first it was a sitcom for a few. Now it has become a cult. We're talking about Boris, the television series on air every Monday on Fox tv, that has as protagonists Pietro Sermonti, Nini Bruschetta, Caterina Guzzanti, Antonio Catania and from this year, an exceptional guest star: Corrado Guzzanti.

Boris is an anomalous series, that mocks itself. It comes to a series that tells the life on the set of a drama, named Gli occhi del cuore (The eyes of the heart). Boris is the name of the minnow mascot of the director of Gli occhi del cuore (The eyes of the heart), such René Ferretti, interpreted by the excellent dubber Francesco Pannofino. The offending drama follows the worst stereotype of the Italian drama, halfway between Un medico in famiglia (A Doctor in the Family - Original format: Médico de familia) and Capri.

Set inside a clinic, it tells the stories of the protagonists two doctors, Giorgio and Giulia. And to interpret them are two young vitiated actors who hate each other, Corinna (Carolina Crescentini) and Stanis Larochelle (Pietro Sermonti). Around these there are the assistant director Arianna (Caterina Guzzanti) in love with the intern Alessandro, the director of photography Duccio, the technician Biascica, the producer Diego Lopez (Antonio Catania) and other characters of Italian set. Occasionally, we also see the screenwriters of the drama, closed in a house where they spend the time playing ball and attacking between them senseless commonplaces to advance the series.

In short, the italian drama fiercely and comically torn to pieces. Boris is the irony made series: actors rigorously recommended who don't want to shoot, extras who don't show up, hitches, delays, lack of funds. Just like in real life. Boris borns from an idea of Luca Manzi and Carlo Mazzotta, but it's written and directed by Luca Vendruscolo, Mattia Torre and Giacomo Ciarrapico. The series has become a cult especially for the fierce improprieties (blasphemies, allusions to drug and recommendations, swear words) and the catchphrases of the characters. Memorable are the incitements of the director Ferretti, that yells 'Genio!' (Genious!) and 'Dai dai dai' (Come on come on come on), or the complaints of Stanis, who hates the scenes 'too Italian'.

The most incorrect character is perhaps Duccio, at the perennial search for cocaine, who hates the glossy photography of the TV. His motto is 'Smarmella' (Open all the light), to order the technicians to open the spotlights to the maximum and to have that bright and fake light of the drama.

The second season, of 14 episodes, has some news. The actress Carolina Crescentini (and hers character Corinna) has been replaced by another recommended one: Cristina, daughter of an industrialist and played by the actress Eugenia Costantini. The real gem is the entry of Mariano, played by Corrado Guzzanti. Mariano is an actor mentally unstable and violent, who believes to have met Jesus and wants at all costs to be cast in the role of a martyr priest. In the Gli occhi del cuore (The eyes of the heart) he plays the evil character, the Count, of which is unknown the name and that Mariano doesn't want to interpret. If Boris was broadcasted on the generalist tv, Guzzanti would be denounced, in all probability. His character mocks the Church and the interference that has in show business.

Yet, despite the praises of the television critics from all over, Boris is directed to a select few, being visible only on the satellite. Now have we to rely to the courage of the pay-TV? No, it remains to us the web, from which the series was launched. Boris has indeed a blog with behind the scenes and specials, interviews and even a contest. Who plays better the theme song, sung by Elio e le Storie Tese, wins the box set of the first season. Hurry!
